13 years ago today, our country forever changed. So many people lost loved ones, friends, & co-workers. It was a horrible day that changed how we saw the world and shook us to our core. However, out of the dust heros were made. So many people, just average joes, became heros risking their lives to save others. New Yorkers pulled together, and everyone chipped in, from sending supplies to sending people and prayers-our community united for a common cause, something you rarely see. When I remember this day I see the horror that brought so many people to their deaths, and many more to their knees in tears as well as the fear, but I also like to remember how we came together and supported each other in the wake of such a tragedy. May everyone who died be resting in peace, especially those of the FDNY, NYPD, & PAPD. Lastly, I would like to ask that if you feel 9/11 is overdone, I would like to remind you that that is your opinion. Not everyone was affected in the same way that you were (or weren’t), and more importantly life is not a game of misery poker- comparing people’s tragedies belittles the real pain that many people feel. Anyway, to everyone else, as I do every year, I raise my glass.
